Creating Independent Topologies

The independent topology is a complete topological tree, which is divided into the parts inside and outside the site. On Site Onboarding menu, parts of the topology structure tagged as Independent by the topology rules is the internal portion, and this portion will be synchronized to Topology menu. For more information, see Building Topologies.

This article describes how to create an independent topology for the portion outside the site.

Prerequisites

  • The current account has access permissions for Topology menu, as well as permission points for managing topology structures. Contact the application administrator if necessary.
  • Make sure the required sites, devices, components, and custom type assets have been created. For more information, see Configuring Sites and Configuring Devices.
  • Make sure that the topology rules are already available in the current OU template. The topology rules that support the creation of independent topologies are listed in the list on the left of Topology menu page. If you need to add or modify them, please contact the system administrator.

Procedure

  1. Select Topology page in the left navigation bar, select the topology rule for which to create a topology tree on the left, and select the corresponding btn_add or Create Topology.
  2. In the pop-up, enter a name for the topology tree, and then select Next.
  3. In the Create Root Node pop-up, according to Category and Type of the top-level node, select an existing object in the current OU in Object, or create a new object and attach it to the top-level node. Category and Type of top-level nodes are determined by the topology rules. Contact the system administrator if you need to modify them.
    • If the category of the top-level node is of Site, Device, or Component type, you cannot create a new object on the current page. You can only select from existing objects in the current OU.
    • If the category of the top-level node is Custom Type, you can select an existing group in the current OU, or create a new group. Note that the newly created Custom Type outside the site is only a logical asset, not a device asset. Once the node is deleted, Custom Type will also be deleted at the same time.
      1. Select New Asset, and enter Name, Time Zone, and other information of the top-level node in the pop-up
      2. Select Submit to create a top-level node for the current topology.

After creation, the top-level node will be displayed at the top of the topology tree, and the basic information of the assets assigned on the top-level node will be displayed on the right. Select View Details to enter the asset’s details page for viewing and editing.
