Troubleshooting Topology Building

Cannot Assign Required Type Assets

Either under Site Onboarding > Build Topology step or on Topology menu page when building topologies, an asset of the required type cannot be assigned to a certain node.

Cause

The asset types that can be onboarded in the topology and the hierarchical relationship of the asset types are determined by Topology Rules.

To assign the required type of assets under a certain node, at least one restriction of the topology rule needs to be satisfied:

  • If it complies with the object constraints of the root node, it can be assigned to the root node.

  • If it complies with parent-child object constraints, it can be assigned under the corresponding parent node. Other nodes can be assigned only when there is a specified child node under the parent node.

  • If it complies with other object restrictions, it can be assigned to the topology. If it overlaps with a parent-child object, the constraints defined for parent-child objects take precedence. If there is no parent-child object restriction, it can be assigned to any child node in the topology.

Solution

Contact your system administrator to edit the topology rules for the current OU and ensure that the required topology rules are assigned to the current OU template.

Cannot Find Required Topology Rules

Either under Site Onboarding > Build Topology step, or in Topology menu page when building topologies, there is no required topology rule in the list on the left.

Cause

The available topology rules for the current OU are determined by the OU template. Under Site Onboarding > Build Topology step, only the topology rules available for the current site are displayed. On Topology menu page, the topology rules available in the current OU are displayed for independent topology creation.

Solution

Contact your system administrator to edit the topology rules for the current OU and ensure that the required topology rules are assigned to the current OU template.
